Charles Frazier Presents His New Novel, "Varina"

Asheville native Charles Frazier, who gained national fame with Cold Mountain, will introduce his new, fourth novel, Varina, in conversation with UNC Asheville Writer in Residence Wiley Cash, with special guests to be announced - please check this space closer to the event date for updates.
Varina, slated to be released April 3, is based on the life of the young woman who married an older widower, Jefferson Davis, and despite her ambivalence about secession, became first lady of the Confederacy. Eventually, with the Confederacy falling and her marriage in tatters, she flees with her children in this portrait of a woman who comes to realized that complicity carries consequences.
UNC Asheville's Great Smokies Writing Program presents this event in partnership with Malaprop's Bookstore/Cafe.
