Echofest - Free Concerts on Four Stages

Blue Echo Radio, UNC Asheville’s student online radio station, presents its annual music festival, Echofest, free and open to everyone, with some 35 bands performing on four different stages on the university campus from noon-11 p.m. on Saturday, March 25.

The music will span many genres, including pop-punk, classic rock, punk, indie, rap, jam, blues, acoustic rock, and folk. The Echofest main stage as well as the Helpmate stage will be on the UNC Asheville Quad, and other stages will be in Lipinsky Hall as well as The Glasshouse connected to Ramsey Library.

Arts Fest

UNC Asheville’s third annual Arts Fest, including free musical performances, film screenings, exhibits, creative workshops and more, will be held April 6-8 across campus. Featured artists Clarissa Sligh, David LaMotte, and David Hess will present their respective works related to the Arts Fest theme, “Arts for Social Change.”

Arts Fest Activities - April 7

  • 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., art hack event, in which participants will combine computer code with traditional art materials to co-create projects, and will combine code, cardboard and microcontrollers to develop survival-oriented materials. Activities will take place in the CrAFT Studio in the lower level of Ramsey Library.

David LaMotte Free Concert

Award-winning songwriter, speaker and writer David LaMotte will perform a free concert on the UNC Asheville Quad at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 7. LaMotte had suspended his 18-year music career at its peak in 2008 to pursue his other passion by accepting a Rotary World Peace Fellowship to study international relations, peace and conflict resolution at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. He is the author of three books, including two illustrated children’s books, and is a public speaker and workshop leader.

Jazz and Contemporary Music - Student, Faculty and Alumni Jam

Reggae Jam Session with Blakk Rasta and UNC Asheville Faculty

Abubakar Ahmed, popularly known as Blakk Rasta, will lead a lunch & learn titled "Navigating Civil Discourse," from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23 in the Overlook Hall Multipurpose Room 011. 

Ahmed also will present a lecture, "Religion vs. Pan-Africanism in Africa Today," in Humanities Lecture Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23.

He also will jam with two members of the UNC Asheville faculty, Agya Boakye-Boaten on drums,  and Jeremias Zunguze on guitar, from 7-8:30 p.m. in Highsmith Union in The Grotto.

These events are free and open to everyone.

Center for Jewish Studies 35th Anniversary Concert with Danny Maseng

Danny Maseng will perform a concert of inspirational music from Jewish and world traditions on the main stage at Isis Restaurant and Music Hall, 743 Haywood Rd. in Asheville, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 26. Center for Jewish Studies 35th Anniversary

UNC Asheville’s Center for Jewish Studies (CJS) will celebrate its 35th anniversary with a series of special events on and off campus March 23-26. The celebration will begin with an evening of literature, film and reflection, continue with an on-campus presentation by Israeli writer and recording artist Danny Maseng, and culminate in a concert by Maseng at Isis Restaurant and Music Hall in West Asheville.
